Ever since the 2004 "wardrobe malfunction" baring Janet Jackson's breast, the half time entertainment has retro-ed back to the 1970's. Yesterday watching The Who perform was quite painful. I find it hard to believe that the promoters can't find a more modern band or singer to entertain us in 2010. Half the crowd probably weren't even born when the medley of those songs came out. Albeit I like classic rock but watching bi-focals and bellies rocking out on stage at one of the most televised events of the year just didn't quite cut it.
Here's a list of the past half time performers the last 5 years:
2005 Paul McCartney -60 plus years old - former Beatles member from the 60's
2006 Rolling Stones- great 70's band......but why now?
2007 Prince - great 80's performer.....a little more modern
2008 Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.....Loved his 1979 album
2009 Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.........Born in the U.S.A. was a great album in 1984.
Come CBS as you know controversy sells and a more modernized performance may attract a younger demographic.
