LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A Long Beach man was charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in the death of a 1-year-old girl who was hit by an SUV and dragged about a mile up Redondo Avenue before the driver stopped late Friday night.

Her 2-year-old brother suffered head trauma and remained in critical condition in a Long Beach hospital Saturday, police said.
